4 Link Setup
Well I’m not going to re-invent the wheel here. Crawlpedia is an excellent site and company, where you can learn all you need to know about basic 4 link geometry. Click the link and start reading! They also have excel files you can download with 4 link calculators that you can use. Thanks guys at Crawlpedia!
So after you have an understanding of the goals of your new suspension setup, you can lay out your new setup. Get your rig up on jack stands, place the axles under it based on what kind of wheel base you are aiming for, then you can mock up where the mounts will go on the body and axles. After the mounts are all installed, you can measure exactly how long the long arms will be. You can also use PVC pipes with your rod ends (to act as fake long arms) and cycle the suspension to make sure there is no binding or interference. Then when everything is exactly how you want it, you can cut and weld up the control arms. And while you don’t need it to be perfect, it is a good idea to at least make sure the geometry isn’t so far off that it will give you problems on the trail. This does happen, so take the time to check it before making it!
